DE Sports Wins Two Over Weekend (06/16/15)

Clarion Big League Division’s DE Sports had a successful weekend (Saturday and Sunday, June 13th and 14th), winning a pair of contest at home. On Saturday, DE Sports downed Cranberry 3-1 and on Sunday, they defeated Reynolds 7-1.

DE SPORTS 3 – CRANBERRY 1

DE Sports jumped out to a 2-0 lead, in the bottom of the fourth. Cranberry came back with a run of their own, in the top of the fifth, but DE Sports answered with a run in the bottom of the inning.

Sam Leadbetter led Clarion with a single, an RBI and a run scored Max Lane and Thomas Plummer each had hits and Adrian Weber and Spencer Miller each scored once. Derek Lauer was the winning pitcher, with Weber picking up the save.

DE Sports manager, Lee Weber said, “It was a very well pitched and played game. Even though we did not hit the way we can, our defense was playing superb to make up for it. Max Lane, Derek Lauer, Reed Anthony, and Adrian Weber all pitched well and giving up only 3 hits total. Mason Rearick and Sam Leadbetter had 1 RBI each.

“Player of the Game is Team Defense! Anytime we play a whole game and don’t commit an error, we have a good chance of winning!

“Reed Anthony made a couple of nice catches of balls that were hooking into the corner. Thomas Plummer made a really good catch of a ball hit over his head. Sam Leadbetter charged on a couple of grounders and made good throws. Max Lane caught a couple of high pop ups. Adrian Weber fielded a ball to his right and made an accurate throw to force out a runner and had a good pick off while pitching. Leo Aiello caught another solid game.

“All 4 pitchers (Max Lane, Derek Lauer, Reed Anthony, and Adrian Weber) dominated their opponent by giving up only 3 hits. Combined everything, Clarion 3 Cranberry 1.”

DE SPORTS 7 – REYNOLDS 1

DE Sports opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Reynolds scored a run in the top of the  fourth, but DE answered with a 4 runs in the bottom of the inning and another in the fifth, to set the final.

Thomas Plummer, who was named Clarion’s Player of the Game, had a home run, a double, 2 RBIs and also scored once.

Weber had two hits and an RBI, Sam Leadbetter and Max Lane each had a single, an RBI and scored a run and Jake Zacherl had an RBI and scored a run. Aiello Rearick each had a single and scored once and Miller scored once.

Miller was the winning pitcher and Reed Anthony picked up the save.

Coach Weber said, “Another strong performance by our pitchers and defense! We gave up only 1 run on 2 hits and the defense played errorless ball. Thomas Plummer had a solo blast in the 5th along with 2RBI’s and a double.

“The pitching of Leadbetter, Miller, and Reed Anthony were spot on! The defense limited their bats with only 2 hits and 1 run. Reed had 3 nice put outs and Aiello made some nice plays at 3rd base.

“Weber also made a spectacular catch, over the 8′ fence, by timing his jump perfectly.

“Jake Zacherl took 2 hit by pitches for the team and one of them forced a run in for an rbi. Clarion 7 Reynolds 1.”
