Basketball: Lady Cats Down Lady Rovers In Brockway Tip-Off Tournament Consolation Game, Rebound From Opening Loss (12/06/15)

The Clarion Area Girls Basketball Team opened the 2015-16 season by competing in the Brockway Tip-Off Tournament, on Friday (December 4th) and Saturday (December 5th). The Lady Cats won the consolation game, on Saturday, downing host Brockway 41-35,

The score was tied at 10-all, after one period and the Lady Cats held a one-point 19-18 lead at the half. Each team scored nine points, in the third stanza. After taking a 28-27 lead into the final quarter, Clarion outscored the Lady Rovers13-8, setting the final.

Alexis Constantino led Clarion with nine points. Maya Thornton had eight. Sisters, Wendy and Kelly Beveridge each contributed 6 points. Anna Reed and Jenna Beichner had 5 points apiece, while Keanna Over added two points.

Leah Lindemuth led Brockway with 16 points andKaitlyn Morelli added twelve.

The Lady Cats opened the tournament with a loss 49-34 loss to the DuBois Central Catholic Lady Cardinals. DCC jumped out to an 18-8 lead, after one and moved the lead to 36-22 at the half. After a 9-2 Lady Cardinals advantage in the third, pushed the score to 45-24, Clarion came back, in the final stanza, outscoring DCC 10-4 to set the final.

Gloria Kroh led Clarion, with eight points. Reed had 7 and Maddie Weaver scored six. Jenna Beichner, Constantino and Thornton each contributed three points. Wendy Beveridge scored two points.

Jordy Frank led DCC with 12 points.

Redbank Valley won the Tournament by downing Brockway 46-28 in their opening game and following that with a 34-30 win over DCC in the championship game. Becca Dougherty led RBV with 15 points in the opener and Brooke Hinderliter led the Lady Bulldogs with twenty-four points in the title game.

The Lady Cats return to action on Wednesday (December 9th), when they host Venango Catholic.
