The Clarion Area Lady Cat soccer team opened the 2016 playoffs with a trip to Port Allegany Monday. The Lady Gators opened the scoring in the first half when Autumn Buchsenschutz chipped a ball across the Clarion goal box and found Autumn Freer for a goal. Later in the first half Buchsenshutz gave Port Allegany a 2-0 lead after being awarded a questionable penalty kick. The Ladycats played hard throughout the game and with 4 minutes left in the game Alexa Kriebel scored off of a Clarion corner kick, (Port Allegany 2 – Clarion 0. Unfortunately the girls ran out of time and Port Allegany won the game and will move on to play Dubois Central Catholic in the semifinal round.

The 2016 Ladycat season was a successful one, as the coaches saw individual improvement throughout the squad. The team finished 5-2-1 in UAVSL league play, the only losses being against perennial powerhouse, Karns City. Their overall record improved as well, finishing 9-7-2 in 2016, compared to an 8-10 record in 2015. The team would like to once again thank the outgoing seniors, Courtney Schonbachler, Forest Mills, Hannah Phillips, and Jena Omecinski, and wish them good luck going forward as their high school soccer careers conclude.

Thanks also to the parents, students, and fans for their support this season. Thanks also to Clarion Area High School Athletic Dept. and grounds staff for providing the team all of the resources for a successful season.

(Thanks to Coach Schonbachler for this article and all his fine articles this season. Great Season

Lady Cats!!!!)
