Wrestling Round-up: Bobcats Place Fourth At Falconer Tournament, Defeat Punxy (01/20/17)

Falconer Tournament
The Clarion Area Bobcat Wrestling Team participated in the  Falconer Tournament last Friday and Saturday (January 13th and 14th) coming away with a fourth place finish out of the twenty-one team field.
The only teams finishing ahead of the Bobcats were champion Harbor Creek (ranked number two in District 10), second place Falconer (rancked number one in NY State Small School Division) and Randolph (ranked number nine in NY State Small School Division).  Eisenhower rounded out the top five.
Led by Tom Wurster’s first place finish at 220, the Bobcats had eight of eleven wrestlers finish in the top six of their respective weight classes.  Tom had one fall during the tournament.
The Bobcats had two third place finishers, Frank Weber at 132 and Colton Rapp at 160. Frank had three falls,  and a major decision. Colton had one fall.
Finishing fourth were Logan Dehner at 106 and Mike LeFay at 152. Logan had two falls and a major decision and Mike had four falls. Ryley McMaster Colt Stimmell and Ben Smith each finished fifth at 138, 182 and 195 respectively. Ryley had a fall and a major decision while Colt and Ben each recorded a fall.
Also competing were Sterling Conner who went 2-2 at 145, Luke Nellis who went 1-2 at 170 and Matt Coleman who was o-2 at heavyweight. Both of Sterling’s wins were by fall.
Clarion 49 – Punxsutawney 18
Mike LeFay opened the match with a pin at 5:20 of the 152 pound match. Then Colton Rapp won by fall at 1:09 of the bout at 160. Seth Nellis had an 18-9 major decision at 170. The Cats led 16-0 after the first three bouts.
Ben Smith had a pin at 2:53 at 195, during a span that saw the Chucks win three matches. With Clarion holding a 22-12 lead, Logan Dehner had a fall in 1:o5 of the 106 bout to move the Cat’s lead to 28-12.
Riley McMaster won 8-2 at 138, Sterling Conner won by fall in 2:39 at 145 , Ezekiel Brewer and Frank Weber had forfeit wins at 126 and 132 respectively.
