Basketball: Lady Cats Runners-up At Brockway, Bobcats Drop Two One Point Contests At Keystone (12/11/17)

The Clarion Area Lady Cats Basketball Team finished in second place in the Brockway Tip-off Tournament and the Bobcat Boys dropped two one point games in the Keystone Tip-off Tournament over the weekend (Friday and Saturday, December 8th and 9th).

The Lady Cats opened with a 41-35 victory over DuBois Central Catholic, on Friday. DCC held a 13-8 lead after one, but the Clarion closed the gap to 19-16 at the half. A big third quarter propelled clarion to a 33-22 lead headed into the final stanza.

Wendy Beveridge led Clarion with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and five steals. Kaitlyn Constantino followed with 12 points and three steals. Ali Troese had 6 points, 7 rebounds and two assists.

The Championship game, on Saturday, saw the host Lady Rovers downing the Lady Cats 54-44.

Clarion led 16-14 after one. Brockway held a 26-22 lead at the half and a 41-32 lead after three.

Beveridge led the Cats again, scoring 18 points, pulling down 8 rebounds and blocking five shots. Constantino followed with 14 points.

The Bobcat boys fell to DuBois 58-57 in the opening game on Friday, on a last second shot by Chase Husted. The Beavers led 10-6 after one, 22-18 at the half and 38-37 after three.

Austin Hummell led Clarion with 28 points. Cam Craig had 8 and TiJon Faulk-Taylor chipped in with five.

In the consolation game, Ian Henry gave Keystone the win, with a bucket as time was running down. Clarion led 14-7, after one and 28-22, at the half. Keystone held a 34-32 lead after three.

Cameron Craig led the Cats with 18 points. Hummell followed with 12 points.

The Cats will host Clarion-Limestone on Tuesday (December 12th) and the Lady Cats will travel to Clarion-Limestone on Wednesday (December 13th).
