A Near Thirty Year Tradition, Junior High Wrestling Tournament Continues With New Wildcats Team On Saturday, December 9th; Information And Sign-up Links For Volunteers And Contributors For This Program-Wide Fundraiser; The Team Will Also Host The Newly Formed District 9 Wrestling League Varsity Tournament On Saturday, January 6th

A long, long tradition with Clarion Bobcats Wrestling will continuing this year with the new Central Clarion Wildcats team, the Junior High Wrestling Tournament, scheduled for a week from Saturday, on December 9th. (They will also host the Newly Formed District 9 Wrestling League Varsity Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, January 6th. This is the Wildcats’ other major fundraiser.)

Clarion Varsity Head Coach Braun Gourley said, “Our Junior High Tournament has been taking place for almost 30 years.  It has become a premier Junior High Tournament with nineteen teams attending from all over western PA this year.”

In addition to Central Clarion, those teams include: Bald Eagle Area, Bellefonte, Cameron County, Central Cambria, Corry, Coudersport, Cranberry, Curwensville, Johnsonburg, Kane, Marion Center, Mercer, North Star, Port Allegany, Punxsutawney, Redbank Valley, Ridgway and Union City.

Admission to the event, which will be held in Clarion Area’s Main Gym at 219 Liberty Street, is $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for students, with ages 4 and under free. The admission is good for the whole day.

The Clarion Wrestling Booster Club will provide snacks and food all day, both in the hallway and cafeteria. Breakfast will also be available. 

Coach Gourley said, “This year our Junior High program is also wrestling as the Wildcats.  Our participation numbers have more than doubled from last year.  We are hoping to roster 16-18 wrestlers.” 

The Junior High Tournament is the biggest fundraiser for the Wrestling program each year. “The proceeds from this tournament help all levels of our program. 

“It allows use to purchase new singlets for the youth program, new equipment for the room, and funds an overnight trip for the varsity to Falconer, New York.

“We also use the funds raised to send wrestlers to summer camps.”

Medals will be provided for the top 3 finishers in each division. A team score will be kept with the top 3 teams will receiving awards. There will be no team scoring for Junior Varsity wrestlers.

The Wildcat Wrestling Team is looking for volunteers and has links where you can sign up below, either to help with the food or with other aspects of the tournament. You can click on to the links below to sign up.

Everything is set up for one hour shifts, with a number of slots to pick from (Many hands makes the work light).

Concessions begin with set-up from 6-7 a.m. and continue throughout the day, until cleanup and tear down at 2 p.m. Wrestling is expected to conclude around 3:30 p.m. 

Slots to work the Doors and the 50/50 drawing will run from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. when 50/50 sales end. The drawing is set for 12:00 Noon.

Also some other ways to help include: make a food, beverage or monetary donation to the concession stand. A food and beverage needs list will be sent out a week before each tournament. Donations can be brought to practice or dropped off the day of each tournament. Sign up sheets will be posted a week before the tournaments. Monetary donations can be given to Coach Kiskadden or Coach Gourley.
