Jared Bish And Derek Lauer Doing Great At Districts (09/30/14)

(By Coach Jay Kerle)

Jared Bish and Derek Lauer continued to represent Clarion Area with pride at the first round of the District 9 golf championship on Monday at Punxsutawney Country Club.

Overcoming a triple bogey on the 17th hole, Jared fired a 76 and carded the low round of the day by four shots. Derek got off to a rough start but did not give up and fought his way back to tie for 9th place with an 88.

The top fourteen individual golfers from single A and double A will return for the second and final round of the District 9 championship on Saturday. The top 8 will advance to the regional tournament at Toms Run. The only other player from the ksac advancing to the second day will be AC Valley’s Noah Morgan. He shot an 89 on Monday.

I’m sure it sounds like I’m playing favorites by saying this because I’m their coach but I like Jared and Derek’s odds on Saturday. They both have been very competitive this year and have the talent to do well. Derek is just one shot and one place back of moving on after the conclusion of the first round. And I don’t even know where to start with Jared. He has a four shot lead over Mitch Struble of Elk Catholic and Josh Roselli of Ridgway.

The next closest competitor is nine shots back. The kid has a great deal of dedication and determination.

I am constantly getting positive comments from other players and coach about how he conducts himself on and off the course.
