Clarion Area Student / Faculty Basketball Games Held (03/19/15)

The Clarion Area Education held their Annual Student / Faculty Basketball Games on Thursday, March 19th, at Clarion High School’s Main Gym.

There was a large crowd on hand to witness the two games. Referees for the games were Girls’ Varsity players Nicki Glenn, Lauren Wiser and Maci Thornton.

The first game of the evening saw the 6th Grade Girls’ Squad defeat the Ladies Faculty Team by a score of 24-22.

Then in the nightcap, the Varsity Boys’ Team defeated the Mens’ Faculty by a score of 56-54.

The game, which was close throughout, saw the Varsity take a one point, 31-30 lead into halftime.

The Mens’ Team led by one point, 54-53, with seconds remaining in the game. But the Varsity got possession of the ball. Senior, Derek Lauer put up a three-pointer and it was nothing but net, with the ball going through the hoop just as the buzzer sounded.

Students rushed the floor to congratulate Lauer and celebrate the win.

There was a three point contest, at halftime of the Boys’ Varsity / Mens’ Faculty game. The winner of the contest was Isaac Kim who drained eight treys.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Clarion Area Education Association’s Scholarship Fund. The scholarships are given to senior students.
