Clarion Elementary Wrestling Team Members Do Well At Reynolds And Punxsutawney Tournaments (01/31/14)

The Clarion Elementary Wrestlers had a busy weekend, last Saturday and Sunday (January 25-26), with members competing in several tournaments.

Two Bobcats, Isaac Lerch and Hayden Weber competed in the Reynolds Wrestling Club Junior Tournament, at Reynolds High School, in Greenville, on Saturday. Both wrestlers competed in the 7 and Under Novice Division. Isaac finished with a 2-2 record and Hayden went 3-2. Coach Weber called it “(a) Fine showing by both boys in their first open tournament.”

Other members the local club took part in the either the Groundhog Youth Classic (open) Wrestling Tournament, on Saturday or the Groundhog Novice Tournament, on Sunday.

Ben Smith captured a 1st place, while Chase Makray and Owen Reinsel each finished in 3rd Place in the Open Tournament, on Saturday. Brenden Makray also competed in the Open Tournament.

Jake Smith took 1st Place, in Sunday’s Novice Tournament, with Derek Smail and Brady Pierce each earning 2nd Place finishes. Mason Gourley wrestled to a 3rd Place finish. Also wrestling for the Bobcats, on Sunday were Dawson Smail, Kam Kerle and Logan Powell.

Coach Weber had this to say about his young charges efforts at Punxsutawney, “Brothers Ben Smith (open) and Jake Smith (novice) each took big strides for their confidence by earning 1st place. Derek Smail and Brady Pierce continue to impress by earning 2nd place finishes at the novice level.

“Chase Makray and Owen Reinsel came back strong to earn 3rd place finishes in the open division and Mason Gourley did the same in the novice division. Others that participated and gave it their all were Dawson Smail, Kam Kerle, Logan Powell and Brenden Makray.”

The Team will host their 6th Annual Clarion Wrestling Club Odd Age/Open/Novice, Round Robin Elementary Tournament tomorrow (Saturday, February 1), at the Clarion High School Gym. The action will start at 9:00 AM.

Coach Weber offered this invitation to the community, “Please come out and support our Elementary Wrestlers, this Saturday at the HS as we will be hosting Clarion’s Odd Age Novice/Open. It will be exciting!!!!!”
