Six Bobcats Named To Pennsylvania Football News All-State Team (01/03/14)

The 2013 Pennsylvania Football News All-State Team was announced on Thursday, January 2, 2014, and the 14-0, District Nine Class-A Champion, Clarion Area Football Team is well represented. The Bobcats who reached the PIAA State Semi-Finals and were fifth in the Final PFN State Class-A rankings, had three players named to the First Team, two named to the Second Team and one named to the Third Team.

Two Bobcats made the First Team Offense. Cody Hearst, a 5’11” 165 pound senior (who was also named to the Pre-Season, Second Team as a Defensive Back and Safety), was named as a Wide Receiver and Damien Slike, a 6’0” 211 pound senior, was named as an Athlete.

Hearst had 63 receptions for 1285 yards (20.4 yards per catch) 12 receiving touchdowns; 12 carries for 146 yards (12.17 yards per carry) and 2 rushing touchdowns.

Slike  rushed for 1896 yards on 152 carries (12.47 yards per carry), with thirty-seven touchdowns. He had 15 receptions for 361 yards (24.07 yards per catch) and five touchdowns. Slike also had 102 kick return yards. He had 2359 total yards.

Ian Corbett, a 5’11” 161 pound junior, was named to the First Team as a Defensive Lineman. He had 90 tackles, 12 sacks, and two fumble recoveries, on a defense that led the State in Points Allowed Per Game (9.63). The defense registered an amazing nine shutouts during the season.

The Second Team saw one Bobcat selected on each side of the ball, in Offensive Lineman, Benton Reichart and Defensive Athlete, Brendan Miller.

Reichart, a 6’1” 296 pound senior, was a key element on the offensive line for the #3 All-Time Single Season Scoring Offense, in any Classification, in PIAA History (771 points). The Offense accumulated 4418 rushing yards (294.5 per game) and 77 rushing touchdowns; 2321 passing yards (154.7 per game) and 27 touchdowns through the air.

Reichart and his brother “HOGS” paved the way for two running backs, Slike and Corbett, who each rushed for over 1000 yards, and provided protection for quarterback, John Katis who threw for over 2000 yards, with more than 1000 of those yards going to Hearst.

Miller, a 6’2” 161 pound sophomore, had 68 tackles, 1 sack, 8 interceptions, 115 interception return yards and two blocked punts in leading the stingy Bobcat’ secondary, from his defensive back position.

Rounding out the Bobcat selections is Antonio Troese, a 6’1” 145 pound senior, who was named to the Third Team as the Place Kicker. Troese was successful on 83 of 95 extra points. He was a perfect two-for-two on field goals.

(Destin Strauser, a 5’11” 196 pound junior, was named to the Pre-Season, Second Team as a Defensive Lineman, along with Hearst.)

Four other players, from the KSAC, made the PFN Teams. Redbank Valley’s Zane Watson, was named as a First Team Place Kicker on the Class-A Team. And on the Class-AA Team, Brookville Offensive Lineman Nate Nosker was named to the Third Team, as were Karn City Defensive Lineman, Adam Whited and Defensive Athlete, Cody Deal.

Other District Nine Players named were:
Class-A Second Team: Alec Shaffer-Doane, Quarterback, Brockway; Anthony Benson, Brockway, Wide Receiver; Zach Tibbens, Curwensville, Running Back. Class-A Third Team: Austin Jacobson, Curwensville, Linebacker. Class-AA Second Team: Evan Long, Kane, Defensive Lineman. Class-AA Third Team: Jeff Kocjancic, Kane, Wide Receiver. Class-AAA First Team: Christian Lezzer, Clearfield, Offensive Athlete. Class-AAA Second Team: Hunter Keith, Clearfield, Offensive Lineman. Class-AAA Third Team: Spencer Herrington, Clearfield, Place Kicker. Class-AAAA Third Team: Bryson Paulinellie, Dubois, Wide Receiver.

District 10 players from our region named to the squad were:  Class-A First Team: Blake Reddick, Lakeview, Running Back; Sam Breese, Lakeview, Offensive Lineman. Class-AA Third Team: Justin Reynolds, Greenville, Defensive Lineman. Class-AAA Third Team: Logan Way, Oil City, Wide Receiver; Colton Raabe, Slippery Rock, Offensive Lineman.
