Bobcat Baseball Team Downs C-L (04/11/14)

The Clarion Area Baseball Team traveled to Strattanville, on Wednesday, to take on Clarion-Limestone and came away with a hard fought 9-7 win.

Neither team scored in the first inning. The top of the second saw the Bobcats score a run. The Lions answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. A five run Clarion outburst , in the top of the third, gave the Cats a 6-2 lead. Both teams went scoreless, in the fourth. Then the Bobcats upped their lead to 7-2, with a run in the top of the fifth. C-L scored three of their own in the bottom half of the inning, cutting the lead to 7-5.

The Bobcats added two insurance runs in the sixth, to take a 9-5 lead. The first of the two runs would prove to be the game winner, as the Lions would score two in the bottom of the seventh to set the 9-7 final.

Clarion Coach Rob Jewett named John Katis the Bobcats’ player of the game. Katis went 2-3 with 3 RBIs. He scored 3 times and stole a base. John also had a fine game defensively, with 5 assists from 3rd base, with no errors.

Thomas Plummer went 2 for 4 with a double, 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored and two stolen bases. Adrian Weber had a hit with 1 run driven in. Max Lane and Leo Aiello each collected hits. Lane stole a base. Tanner Corbett had an RBI. He scored once and had a stolen base. Dereck Lauer had an RBI and a stolen  base. Matt Verne scored once and Caleb Wilson had a steal.

Lane, the starting pitcher,  worked 2 2/3 innings, striking out four. Verne came on in relief, working 4 1/3 innings to pick up the win. Verne fanned 5 batters.
