Bobcats Down Knights, Move To 3-0 (04/18/14)

The Clarion Area Baseball Team traveled to Rimersburg on Thursday to face the Union Golden Knights and came away with a 16-2 (5 inning) win. With the victory, the Bobcats move to 3-0 and 2-0 in the KSAC. The Knights drop to 1-3 and 1-2 in the Conference.

The Bobcats built a 7-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Neither team scored in the second. But Clarion added to their lead, by scoring 4 runs, in the top of the third. Union broke through with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning, to make the score 11-2, Bobcats.

Clarion put 5 runs across in the fourth, to close out the scoring and set the 16-2 final.

Coach Rob Jewett named Tanner Corbett Player of the Game for the Bobcats who outhit the Knights 9 to 2. Corbett went 3 for 4, with 3 RBIs, 3 runs scored and a stolen base. The Bobcats were 5 for 5 in stolen base attempts.

Adrian Weber was 2 for 3 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. Weber was also the winning pitcher. Matt Verne was 1 for 2 at the plate with 2 RBIs and a run scored. John Katis had 1 hit in 4 plate appearances, driving in 2 runs. He also scored twice. Max Lane went 1 for 2, with 2 RBIs and a run scored.

Brendan Miller had an RBI and scored a run while going 1 for 2. He also stole a base. Brady Raybuck had a hit in his only at bat as did Ethan Straffin and Derek Lauer. Lauer drove in two runs and Straffin scored once. Leo Aiello scored twice and stole a base. Caleb Wilson scored twice and stole a base, while Micheal Bartley and Luke Nellis each scored once.

The Bobcats will travel to Cranberry on Tuesday.
