Junior High and J-O Wrestling Summary (04/17/14)

The Junior High and Junior Olympic Wrestling season came to a close recently. Clarion Junior High and Junior Olympic Coach, Lee Weber shared this summary:

We had 3 goals coming into our JH wrestling season: go undefeated as a team, improve our team place at district, and send at least one wrestler to states. Well, we went 9-1 (our one lost was by the score of 46-42), we took 2nd at district improving one position from last year, and we sent Dakota Stormer to states.

This was unexpected since we lost over half our 9th grade starters to varsity. Then we lost Colton Rapp to an injury for the regular season really compounded our chances of not reaching our goals. His teammates, D. Fleming and J. Kriebel, picked up the slack and came through in many matches this year. We had a great 1-2 punch with our light weights, Riley Slagle (13-8) and Login Dehner (20-4). Riley is strong and quick and Login has tons of wrestling experience and can beat anyone.

Our light middle weights are as good as any in the region. They include Frankie Weber (14-5), Ryley McMaster (15-10), Greg Duncan (12-10), Clayton Adams (5-2), Sterling Conner (11-9) and Colton Rapp (10-3). These guys will be exciting to watch the next 4 years. They are improving every year!

Our middle weights are not too shabby either! Dakota Stormer (19-6 state qualifier), Kevin Bradley (15-5), Seth Nellis (9-7), and Karlin Hiles (11-13). Both Seth and Karlin sacrifice during the season to go up to 185 lbs. And at the end of our line up, 2 new comers that dominated their competition were Carter Shipley (7-6) and Tyler Finefrock (16-3).

Again, we will lose ten 9th graders to varsity but we have many solid wrestlers to build around for next year. Finally, just want to thank all the wrestlers for their hard work and also for sticking together to make our team one of the best around!
