In a well played, well pitched Little League softball game, Farmers National Bank came through with a hard fought 4-3 victory over Janney on Monday night. This was Farmers’ first win and Janney’s first loss of the season.
Farmers’ Karleigh Aaron and Janney’s Kaitlyn Constantino were locked in a pitcher’s duel. Aaron threw a two-hitter, picking up 14 strikeouts, while walking five batters. Constantino allowed only 5 hits, striking out 13 and walking five.
The first inning and a half was scoreless. Then Janney posted a run in the bottom of the second. But Farmers came back, in the top of the third. The decisive blow came with two outs, when Lindsey Kemmer came through with a bases loaded single, driving in all three base runners to put Farmers up 3-1.
The score would remain 3-1 for the next 2½ innings. Farmers would score an insurance run in the top of the sixth and final inning for a 4-1 lead.
But Janney wouldn’t go down without a fight. They scored two runs in the bottom of the inning and had the bases loaded with two outs. The potential tying run was on third and the winning run on second. There was a passed ball and the runner on third headed home, but was tagged out at the plate, ending a great game.
Offensively for Farmers, Kemmer had a double and 3 RBIs. Aaron had 2 singles, in three at bats. Sarah Clark and Natalie Meyers each had singles. Meyers had an RBI.
And for Janney, Nikki Schumaker had two hits, including a home run and Dorothy Kalanowski and Kendall Dunn each singled.
