Pizza Pub Improves To 5-3 With Win Over Lions (05/17/14)

On Wednesday 5/14, Pizza Pub improved their record to 5-3 with a 14-2 win over Lions. In the top of the first, the Lions were able to score 2 runs on singles by Nick Frederick, Logan Lerch, and Cole Wrhen and a double by Ben Smith. Nate Datko ended the scoring by throwing out a runner trying to steal second base. The Pub rallied in the bottom of the first with 6 runs of their own. The highlight of the inning was a bases loaded double by Mitch Knepp that plated 3 runs. At the end of the first, Pub held a 6-2 lead.

Ian Larson took over on the mound in the second and held the Lions scoreless. Pizza Pub was able to score two more runs in the bottom of the second. Benny Murtha singled to score Datko, who reached on a fielder’s choice and Knepp singled to score Larson, who was walked.

Larson was solid on the mound in the third as well, facing three batters and striking out two of them. In the home half of the inning, the first two batters struck out. Connor Kromer followed with a single and then Josh Craig followed with a line drive homerun to center field. Datko and Larson also single in the inning, but were stranded on base. The Pub led 10-2 after three.

Kromer pitched the fourth inning for the Pub. He would give up an infield hit and strike out a batter to hold the Lions scoreless in the inning. The bottom of the inning saw the Pub batters draw three walks. Then, with two outs in the inning, Craig stepped to the plate and drove the ball over the left field fence for a walk-off grand slam, his second homerun of the night. ]The four runs would set the final score at 14-2.
