Clarion Little League Fast Pitch Spring Warm-up Tourney Held (06/03/14)
Clarion Little League Softball held their The 2014 Clarion Little League Softball Fast Pitch Spring Warm-up Tournament was held on Saturday and Sunday, May 31 – June 1, at Paul A. Weaver Park.
Both the upper and lower, Little League fields were utilized for the seven team, seventeen game event. The teams in this year’s event were. C-93, C and A Trees, Clarion County Community Bank, Farmers’ National Bank, Janney, Rimersburg and Subway.
The Championship game, on the lower field, saw local team Janney drop a hard fought 8-6 decision to Subway from New Bethlehem. The decisive blow was a two-run inside the park homer by Subway’s Brooke Holben, in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The teams were tied 1-all after the first inning. Janney scored two in the bottom of the third to take a 3-1 lead. Subway put up three runs in the top of the fourth and Janney answered with one in the bottom of the inning, knotting the score at 4-apiece. Janney scored two in the fifth to lead 6-4, but subway scored four in the sixth to pull out the win.
Eleven games were played on Saturday, setting up the seeding brackets for Sunday.
Sunday’s action: Subway beat Rimersburg, in Game 1. Game 2 saw Clarion County Community Bank defeat C and A Trees, while C-93 downed Farmers’ National Bank, in Game 3.
In the Semi-Final matchups, Janney downed CCCB, and Subway defeated C-93.
