Junior High Boys Basketball B-Team Remains Undefeated With Win Over Berries (02/27/15)

(By Coach Jason Craig)

The Clarion Jr. High B-Team kept rolling against the Cranberry Berries with a 25 – 20 win on Wednesday (February 25th). The win moves the young Bobcats to 9 – 0 on the season.

The game got off to a very slow start with a total of 5 points in the opening quarter. Mitch Geiger drained a 3-pointer for Clarion as they lead 3-2 after one.

We found some seams in their zone in the second quarter and were able to put up 14 points while giving up only 4. Seven different bobcats scored in the quarter. Isaac Kim had the biggest shot, burying a shot from beyond the arc. Greg Kalinowski and Ben Burtha each added a basket. Tyler Schmader earned a three-point play the old-fashioned way, with a basket and a foul shot. Nick Frederick made 2 free throws and Clay McElravy and Skylar Rhoades each added 1. Clarion entered halftime with a 17 – 6 lead.

The Berries would not go away quietly though, winning the third quarter 8 – 3 and the fourth quarter 6 – 5. However, it wasn’t enough as the Bobcats hung on for the 25 – 20 win.

Rhoades had 4 more points in the second half and Nate Datko added 3.

In all, 9 Bobcats registered points for Clarion, with Rhoades leading the way with 5. Datko, Geiger, Kim and Schmader each had 3 while Frederick, Kalinowski, McElravy and Murtha all had 2 points apiece.

Fisher lead the way for the Berries with 10 points while McQuaide added 4.

Clarion has four games remaining on their schedule that starts with a trip to Union on Thursday.
