The Clarion Comets girls 5th grade basketball team will complete their inaugural season at the end of March. Competing against Purchase Line, Derry Area, Marion Center, Brookville, A-C Valley, Clarion Limestone, Redbank, Dubois and Karns City the Clarion elementary girls shined through perseverance and limited numbers.

With a bench only 6 deep, the Clarion Comets competed against many teams with double the numbers and many more years of experience. The teams’ sheer athleticism, coaching and tenacity are what propelled them into a strong winning record of 7 wins and 3 losses.

The 5th grade Clarion Comets consists of posts Korrin Burns and Peyton Simko, guards Noel Anthony and Riley Burford and point guards Jordan Best and Evelyn Lerch. Thanks to Joe’s Gym in Strattanville, the Clarion elementary girls called Joes’ Gym home turf to host teams Clarion-Limestone, Brookville and A-C Valley. This budding talent pool will be the eventual replacement of the Clarion Junior High and Varsity Girls Basketball Teams.

Under the guidance of coaches Tammy Lerch and Matt Best, the Comets attended 2 tournaments playing much more seasoned teams. With year one under their belts the Clarion Comets are excited to build on their recent successes and blossom further into their sixth grade year……and beyond.
