Much like the days leading up to the 21st iteration of this holiday tradition, rain was in the forecast, with a deluge bringing the event to a halt approximately two hours after the 9:00AM shotgun start. Despite being rain shortened, the day was a fun-filled social gathering of black and orange supporters. It also provided a great opportunity for participants to meet the current Bobcat gridders, as each hole was manned by one or two players in their home white jerseys.

According to Ken Nellis, Boosters President and Golf Outing Coordinator, 64 golfers comprising 17 teams took to the links this year. All teams completed at least seven holes before the skies opened up, though some managed to squeeze in as many as ten.

The wining team was determined based on the low score for the first seven holes played by each, with the foursome of Kevin Roth, Fred Barron, Brad Roth, and Greg Bean finishing the truncated event atop the leader board.

Once the rains came, participants adjourned to the Golf Club’s pavilion for a lunch catered by Daddy’s Main Street of Clarion. While folks dined on a lunch of chicken and ham, Nellis took the opportunity to thank the event’s 21 corporate sponsors, 51 hole sponsors, and the more than 33 businesses and organizations which donated door prizes and gifts for those who won the day’s various skills competitions.

Long-time Bobcat Head Coach Larry Wiser also spoke, thanking the event’s various sponsors and contributors, as well as the Clarion community as a whole, for their support of the Golf Outing and football program.

The Golf Outing is one of the Football Boosters two major yearly fundraisers, with, as Coach Wiser noted, monies raised going to help back the team’s participation in football camp at Lycoming College this August (among other things).

The Football Boosters would like to thank Clarion Oaks Golf Club for once again being excellent event hosts, as well as the players and the organization’s membership who volunteered their time to help make the day a success.
