Hayden Callen had a remarkable performance, on the mound and at the plate, throwing a one hitter, striking out 9 of the 11 batters he faced and going four-for-four with the bat, including three homeruns.

While he was unstoppable on the mound, Callen and his teammates were nearly as unstoppable at the plate. Clarion which was the “visitor” by virtue of a coin toss, opened the game by scoring three runs in the first inning. Cole Slaugenhoup opened the game with a single. Cal German then reached base on an error, then Callen launched a homerun shot to left, that landed midway between first and second on the Junior League field, giving Clarion a 3-0 lead after 1/2 inning.

After giving up an infield single to the first batter he faced, Callen struck out the next three batters, to end the inning.

Clarion sent eight batters to the plate in the top of the second. Noah DiTullio reached on an error and later scored. Ethan Burford also reached on an error and scored on a homer by German. Callen singled and stole second. He scored after Christian Simko singled. Clarion’s lead was now 7-0 after 2 1/2 innings.
