Lady Cats Volleyball Team Does Well At Northern Cambria Tournament (09/07/15)

The Clarion Area Lady Cats Volleyball Team had a fine showing at the Northern Cambria Kick Off Tournament, this past Saturday (September 6th). There were 19 teams in this year’s event.

The Lady Cats won their pool, defeating Bald Eagle Area 2-1, Blairsville 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-13) and Bishop Gilfoylle 2-1 (25-16, 25-21, 19-25).

The Cats advanced to the quarterfinals where they defeated Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 25-18.

Clarion lost to evential champion, Armstrong 18-25, in the semifinals. Somerset defeated host Northern Cambria in the other semifinal. Then Armstrong downed Somerset in the Gold Cup Final.

Coach Shari Campbell had this to say after the tournament, “This was a good day for Clarion, we have been working hard to build this 2015 team. Hope to see as much growth each week as I have seen from pre-season scrimmages to this opening weekend. With such a young roster, this is a big goal this year, to be a constantly evolving team.”

For the Lady Cats: Anna Reed had 6 aces and twenty-five digs. Olivia burns had 7 aces, 12 kills and eleven digs. Maya Thornton registered 4 aces, 15 kills and 9 digs, while Keanna Over had 3 ace, 14 kills and eleven digs.

Gloria Kroh registered 2 aces, 9 kills and four digs. Johnna Rapp had 2 aces, 7 kills, 2 assists and four digs. Sophie Wolf had 4 kills and 2 digs, Devon Quinn had an assist and 4 digs and Alexa Kriebel had a kill.

The Lady Cats will host Clarion-Limestone tomorrow (Tuesday, September 8th). The JV match is scheduled for 6:00PM, with the Varsity match to follow.
