Lady Cats Volleyball Team Finishes Second In Their Annual Clarion Area Volleyball Tournament (09/27/15)

The Clarion Area Volleyball Team hosted their Annual Tournament on Saturday (September 28th) and earned second place in the Gold Division.

After going 7-1 in pool play, the Lady Cats defeated Warren, 25-17, in the quarterfinals. They followed that match, with a hard fought 26-24, 25-22 victory over Corry, in the semifinals, to move into the Championship match against a very strong North Star team.

The Cougars, who were 8-0 in pool play, reached the finals, by defeating DuBois, 25-14, in the quarterfinals and Maplewood, 25-27, 25-15.

North Star won the Championship match 25-13, 25-13.

The Lady Cats opened pool play defeating North Clarion 25-13, 25-18. They downed Huntingdon 25-18, 25-15. They followed that with a 25-23, 25-21 victory over Cambridge Springs and then went 1-and-1 against Maplewood, winning the first game 25-20 and dropping the second game 23-25.

Anna Reed had 7 aces, an assist and forty-eight digs. Devon Quinn had 6 aces, 32 assists and ten digs. Gloria Kroh had 4 aces, 14 kills, 64 assists and twenty-four digs. Olivia Burns had 2 aces, 42 kills 25 digs and an assist. Alexis Constantino had 6 aces, a kill and three digs. Johnna Rapp had 5 aces, a kill and seven digs.

Maya Thornton had 18 kills and eight digs. Sophie Wolf had 14 kills, an assist and a dig. Alexa Kriebel had 9 kills and a dig. Sydney Kiser had 4 kills and 2 digs and Dorothy Kalinowski had 3 kills, an assist and a dig.

Lady Cat coach, Shari Campbell had this to say about her young team, “Our home tournament was a day of great growth for the 2015 team.  We accomplished many court goals we have been striving for and settled into more positive play.  It is exciting to see this team begin to gel.  We have a lot to learn from the North Star loss, and a group of motivated athletes ready to take on the challenge.”

Fifteen teams competed in this year’s tournament: (Pool A Clarion) North Clarion, Cambridge Springs, Maplewood, Huntingdon. (Pool B) Keystone, Cochranton, Corry, Warren, Elk County Catholic. (Pool C) North Star, Cranberry, Franklin, DuBois, Bradford.
