Lady Cats Down Lady Bulldogs In D9 Volleyball Quarterfinal Action (11/05/15)
The sixth seeded Clarion Area Lady Cats Volleyball Team earned their spot in the District Nine Class-A Volleyball Semifinals, by downing the homestanding, third seed Redbank Valley Lady Bulldogs, tonight (Thursday, November 5th) in five sets.
The see-saw match saw Clarion take the first game 25-18. Redbank Valley won game two 25-15. Then the Bobcats took the third game 25-20, with the Bulldogs winning the fourth game 25-21, forcing a fifth game. The Cats won that game 15-12. A look at total points scored shows just how close the contest was. Total points: Clarion 101 – Redbank Valley 100.
Gloria Kroh led the Lady Cats with a great all-around game. Kroh scored 11 points (2 aces). She had 41 assists, 10 digs and a kill.
Keanna Over and Olivia Burns had ten points (2 aces) apiece. Over had 14 digs and eight kills. Burns had 18 kills and seven digs. Anna Reed had 8 points, 16 digs and an assist. Alexis Constantino scored 5 points and had seven digs. Maya Thornton scored 2 points (1 ace) and had 9 kills, a pair of assists and seven digs. Johnna Rapp had 2 points (1 ace) and a dig.
Sophie Wolf had 7 kills and a dig, Dorothy Kalinowski had 7 kills and an assist and Sydney Kiser had a kill.
The Lady Cats will take on second seeded Elk County Catholic, in a semifinal match, at 9:30 AM, on Saturday (November 11th), at St. Marys High School. The Lady Crusaders beat Kane 3-1, tonight. The other semifinal match, scheduled for 11:00 AM, will see number one seed A-C Valley going against fourth seed Coudersport – the Lady Falcons versus the Lady Falcons. A-C Valley advanced by downing Smethport 3-1, while Coudersport downed Otto-Eldred 3-1. Both those matches were played tonight also.
The Championship Match is scheduled for 1:30 PM and a True Second Match (if necessary) is set for 3:00 PM.
