The Wolves were still very much in the game early, leading much of the first quarter, and holding a one-point 15-14 edge heading into quarter two.

But then, the Bobcats ran off eighteen straight points to take a 32-15 lead, before the Wolves scored their first second quarter points. Cameron Craig and Jon Smith each had eight points in the quarter and twelve, apiece for the half.

Smith had seven more points, in the third (half of the Cats’ fourteen) as the cats moved the lead to 52-33. Although much of the Bobcats offense, on the night, was in the paint, the highlight of the third was a buzzer beating three-point shot by Ryan Anthony.

Beginning with a bucket by Spencer Miller and then Ryan Anthony’s Trey at the end of the third, the Cats had a twenty point run, stretching well into the final stanza, leaving the Cats up 66-33. The Wolves’ first bucket of the fourth, made the score 66-35 and from that point, each team scored ten more to set the final.

The Bobcats scored many points off of turnovers and fast breaks, throughout the game. A number of the points came from the inside, with short jumpers and layups by open men cutting across the lane and receiving accurate passes from teammates.

Smith led Clarion with twenty-four points, followed by Craig’s sixteen and Ryan Anthony’s thirteen.

The Cats travel to Marienville (East Forest High School), to take on Forest Area, on Friday (December 18th).

CAT QUOTES:

Coach Quinn:

“… that’s one thing that we need time to play as a team. Jon is definitely a skilled basketball player and he has a complete game. He will pass it, just as soon as he will shoot it. When he gets into that hot post and we have people cutting, he will find them. And he found them in the second half.

“That was the difference between the second half, last time against Cranberry and the second half here. And that paid great dividends for us in the end.

“I’m really proud of (our) defense. There were a couple of times when it did break down and that’s going to happen. But I’m very proud. We were reaching with the right hand. We were doing things that we needed to do defensively, especially in the second quarter, to get quick turnovers, to get quick points and then run up and down the floor. So, I’m very proud of (our) defensive effort.”
