Basketball: JV Boys Defeat Venango Catholic, Fall To Cranberry (12/13/15)

The Clarion Area Bobcat JV Basketball Team went 1-and-1 in their first week of 2015 action, downing homestanding Venango Catholic 49-27, on Tuesday (December 8th), while dropping a 29-26 decision, at home, to Cranberry on Friday (December 11th).

The Cats led 11-4 after one period and 26-14 at the half. Clarion extended the lead taking a 40-24 lead into the final stanza. They outscored the Vikings 9-3, in the fourth to set the 49-27 final.

Austin Hummell led the Bobcats with sixteen points. Tom Hearst and Spencer Miller had 8 points apiece, while Archer Mills and Drew Wrhen each contributed five. Zach Bauer and Brendan Zerfoss scored 4 and 3 points respectively.

Ben Gillespi led the Vikings with 12 points and Parker Slagle scored eleven.

Cranberry 29 – Clarion 26

Cranberry led 7-6 after one and 10-9 at halftime, in a game that was tight throughout. A 5-4 Berry advantage in the third moved their lead to 15-13. Cranberry scored one less point in the fourth than they did in the first three periods (14) and the Bobcats tied their output from the first three stanzas (13) setting the final at 29-26 Cranberry.

Miller led Clarion with fifteen points. Hummell followed with four. Wrhen scored 3 points, with Bauer and Hearst each contributing two.

Thompson and Daugherty each had seven for Cranberry.

The Bobcats will host North Clarion on Wednesday (December 16th).
