Track And Field: Clarion Area Has Fine Showing At District Nine Class-AA Meet, Forest Mills Heads To States (05/21/16)

The Clarion Area Track And Field Teams competed in the District Nine Class-AA Championships, last Friday (April 20th). The Lady Cats finished 14th out of 22 teams with 12 points, while the Bobcat Boys finished 12th out of 23 teams with 16 points.

Forest Mills led the Clarion contingent with a second place finish in the 800, finishing with a personal best time of 2:27.81. With the silver medal run,  Forest qualified for the PIAA State Championships to be held this Friday and Saturday (May 27th and 28th) at Shippensburg University’s Seth Grove Stadium.

Several other Bobcats, Josh Kriebel, Adam Bettwy, Wendy Beveridge, Lexi Lauer and Gabby Weaver also took home medals.

Josh just missed a trip to States, finishing third in both Boys hurdle events. Josh had a 15.50 in the 110 hurdles. He had run a 15.35 in the Prelims, which would have qualified for States if it came in the Finals. His time in the 300 hurdles was 41.49.

Adam earned a fourth place medal in the 1600, with a time of 4:46.56. He also finished eighth in the 3200, with a time of 10:45.93.

Wendy garnered a fifth place medal in the triple jump, going 33-4. She also took seventh, just missing another medal,  in the long jump with a leap of 15-9.

Lexi cleared a height of 4-8, for her sixth place medal in the high jump. Gabby also finished sixth, earning a medal in the 100 hurdles with a time 0f 17.84. She ran a personal best 17.23 in the Prelims. Gabby also finished ninth in the 300 hurdles, with a 51.29 time.

Other individual performances for the Bobcat Boys include: Marshall Powers – ninth in the 400 (54.45), Austin Hummel – eleventh in the 800 (2:09.90), Brendan Zerfoss – twelfth in the 100 (12.23) and eighteenth in the 200 (26.55), Kyle Patterson – thirteenth in the 300 hurdles (45.27) and Jimmy Smathers – fifteenth in the javelin (120-11).

Other individual performances for the Lady Cats include: Gloria Kroh – eleventh in the high jump (4-6) and Elsa Tovar eighteenth in the discus (84-0).

The Boys 4×800 relay consisting of Kyle Bettwy, Austin Hummel, Marshall Powers and Jimmy Smathers, finished eighth with a time of 9:13.38. the Boys 4×100 finished ninth, with a time of 46.66.

The Girls 4×100 relay, which includes Wendy Beveridge, Alexa Kriebel, Forest Mills and Gabby Weaver, turned in their best time of the season (53.58) to finish ninth. The 4×400 relay, consisting of  Phylicia Hockman, Forest Mills, Hannah Phillips and Gabby Weaver, competed but did not finish.
