DE Sports 2-1 So Far In State Tournament (07/04/16)
DE Sports of Clarion is 2-1, so far, in State Championship Tournament action at Mansfield University. DE Sports opened the tournament on Friday (July 1st) with an 11-2 win over Tobyhanna. On Sunday (July 3rd) they downed Northwest 19-4, in five innings, before dropping a 9-5 decision to Williamsport on Monday (July 4th).
DE SPORTS 11 – TOBYHANNA 2
DE Sports opened Friday’s game with three runs in the top of the first. Tobyhanna scored a run in the bottom of the inning. The Clarion team added two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings and another in the sixth to take an 8-1 lead. Tobyhanna scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, but DE Sports answered with three runs in the top of the sixth to register the 11-2 victory.
Zayne Hargenrader and Sam Leadbetter each had 2 hits, including a double, 2 RBIs and two runs scored. Cam Craig had 2 hits, one of them a triple, and a run scored.
Sterling Conner had a single and two RBIs. Leo Aiello and Luke Nellis each singled and scored twice. Reed Anthony singled and drove in a run. Derek Lauer singled and scored once. Zander Hargenrader had an RBI and Ryan Anthony scored once.
Adrian Weber was the winning pitcher.
DE SPORTS 19 – NORTHWEST 4
Sunday’s game saw DE Sports carry a 5-1 lead into the top of the third, where they then exploded for ten runs, moving their lead to 15-1. A pair of DE Sports runs in the top of the fourth gave the Clarion squad a 17-1 lead. Northwest scored three in the bottom of the inning, but DE Sports put two more across the plate in the fifth to seal the 19-4 (five inning) win. DE Sports outhit Northwest 16-8.
Zayne Hargenrader led DE Sports with 2 hits, including a grand slam home run, in the third. He had 5 RBIs and scored three runs and was the winning pitcher.
Brendan Miller had 3 hits, including a double and a single, scoring twice and driving in a run. Adrian Weber had 3 hits, an RBI and four runs scored. Derek Lauer had 2 hits, 4 RBIs and a run scored. Spencer Miller had 2 hits, 2 runs scored and two RBIs.
Cameron Craig had a single. He drove in a run and scored twice. Leo Aiello had a pair of singles and scored a run. Reed Anthony singled, drove in a run and scored once. Mason Rearick and Sam Leadbetter each scored once.
WILLIAMSPORT 9 – DE SPORTS 5
DE Sports and Williamsport each scored three runs in the first inning of their Independence Day match-up. Neither team scored in the second, but Williamsport put five runs across in the bottom of the third to take an 8-3 lead. Williamsport added a run in the fifth, moving their lead to 9-3. Two DE Sports runs in the top of the seventh set the 9-5 final.
