Clarion Baseball Sweeps The Week (04/29/17)

Monday (04/24): Clarion 4 – Redbank Valley 1

The Clarion Bobcat baseball team began the week with a 4-1 victory over the Redbank Valley Bulldogs on Monday at County Park.  Clarion jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first two innings before Redbank notched their lone tally in the top of the third.  The Bobcats scored again in the bottom of the third to set the final score at 4-1.

Freshman Skylar Rhoades was 2-3 at the plate, recording both a single and a double.  Seniors  Reed Anthony and Ryan Anthony, junior  Spencer Miller, and Fr. Josh Craig and Nate Datko all contributed singles in the Bobcats 8 hit performance.  Josh Craig, Cam Craig, and Reed Anthony were credited with an RBI apiece, while junior Sterling Conner plated a run with a sacrifice.  Cam Craig had 2 stolen bases and Ryan Anthony swiped 1.

The Bobcats pitching staff limited the Bulldog batters to 2 hits over 7 innings.  Reed Anthony pitched 4 innings, striking out 8 on his way to earning the win.  Conner pitched 2 innings, earning one strikeout.  Miller earned the save, striking out 2 Bulldogs in his single inning of work.

Tuesday (04/25): Clarion 12 – Union 2 (5 innings)

The Clarion Bobcats returned to the diamond on Tuesday, recording a 12-2 five inning victory over the visiting Union Golden Knights.

Clarion scored 3 runs in the first and then added 6 in the fourth to take a commanding 9-0 lead heading into the fifth inning.  Union plated 2 runs in the top of the fifth before Clarion added another 3 to close out the game.

Seniors Reed Anthony and Ryan Anthony both enjoyed a multi-hit game for the Bobcats.  Ryan was 2-3, collecting 3 RBI with his 2 doubles.  Reed was also 2-3, recording 2 RBI on 2 singles.  Junior Sterling Conner struck perhaps the biggest blow for Clarion with a run home run in the fourth.

Also adding singles were senior Kyle Patterson juniors Cam Craig and Spencer Miller, and freshman Nate Datko and Skylar Rhoades.  Cam Craig had 2 RBI, with Miller and freshman Josh Craig contributing 1 apiece.  Patterson had a stolen base for the Bobcats.

Cam Craig got the start for the Bobcats, striking out 3 in four inning of work on his way to collecting the win.  Ryan Anthony came on in relief to strike out 2 in fifth.

 Thursday (04/27): Clarion 4 – Karns City 0

The Clarion Bobcats closed out the week with a shutout victory over the Karns City Gremlins at Pullman Park in Butler on Thursday.  The game was scoreless until the fifth, when the Bobcats tallied 3 runs.  Clarion added another run in the sixth inning to set the final at 4-0.

Senior Kyle Patterson was 3-2 at the plate, driving in a run and also adding a stolen base.  Senior Spencer Miller hit 2 singles, with freshman Josh Craig singling and doubling.  Seniors. Reed Anthony and Dominic Fleming each had singles, as did junior Cam Craig whose hit drove in two runs.  Senior Ryan Anthony was also credited with an RBI.

Reed Anthony went the distance for Clarion, recording 6 strikeouts and surrendering only 3 hits on his way to the win.
