The Clarion Bobcats met the Oswayo Valley Green Wave in St. Marys with the District 9/10 Class A baseball championship on the line.  At the end of the day it was the Green Wave who prevailed, with the Bobcats falling in a hard fought game that took an extra inning to decide.

Clarion’s season is not over with the loss, however, as they will play in the PIAA State Tournament. The Bobcats (18-3) are scheduled to face the District 5 runner-up Berlin Brothersvalley Mountaineers (15-4) in the first round on Monday (June 5th), at DuBois, with the opening pitch set for 1:00PM.

No runners crossed the plate for either side during the first four innings of play, owing to stellar work on the mound by both teams’ pitchers.  Oswayo Valley finally plated a run in the top of the fifth and Clarion responded with one of their own in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 1-1.  The game remained tied through the seventh, necessitating an extra inning to decide the outcome.  Oswayo Valley opened the eighth frame by scoring 3 runs and secured the 4-1 victory when Clarion was unable to counter in the bottom of the inning.

Coach Jewett proud of his pitcher Reed Anthony for holding the Green Wave to 1 run in seven innings of work!

Clarion had 3 hits in the contest, with senior Ryan Anthony, junior Spencer Miller, and freshman Skylar Rhoades connecting for singles.  Miller had the sole Bobcat RBI.  Senior Reed Anthony pitched 7 1/3 innings, striking out three.  junior Sterling Conner and Miller made relief appearances.

The Bobcats (18-3) advance to the state tournament and are scheduled to face the District 5 runner-up Berlin Brothersvalley Mountaineers (15-4) in the first round on Monday (June 5th), at Dubois, with the opening pitch set for 1:00PM
