Former Bobcat Gridder Cody Hearst Has Big Hand In W&J Playoff Win (11/19/17)

Former Clarion Area standout wide receiver Cody Hearst had a major role in Number 10 Washington & Jefferson College’s 31-28 win over Number 19 Johns Hopkins, in an NCAA Division III first round playoff game, at W&J on Saturday (November 18th).

Cody, a recent Honorable Mention, Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) selection had eight receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown. Cody’s touchdown came in the third quarter, breaking a 14-all tie.

The Blue Jays scored the next two touchdowns, to take a 28-21 lead. But the Presidents came back to knot the score at 28-all, when quarterback Alex Rowse hit Cody’s receiving core mate Ryan Zubik on a nine yard touchdown pass, with 9:14 left in the game.

The President’s sealed the win when Mauricio Garibay hit a 46 yard field goal, with fifty-seven seconds left in the contest.

The Presidents will host Frostburg State (Maryland) in the second round, at Cameron Stadium, on Saturday (November 25th) at noon.
