Volleyball’s Season Ends In PIAA “Final Four” (11/15/2017)

Lexi Lauer had a fine night at the service line for Clarion.

(By CSZ Sports Writer Kenn Staub)  The Clarion Bobcat volleyball team squared off against the District 10 champion Maplewood Tigers on Tuesday evening (11/14) with a spot in the PIAA championship game on the line. Unfortunately, it was not the Bobcats’ night, as the Tigers won the match in straight sets 25-17, 25-21, and 25-20.

Lexi Lauer led the Bobcats’ from the service line, scoring 9 points. Maya Thornton followed with 8 and Brenna Campbell 5. Thornton and Sydney Kiser registered 7 kills apiece, Lauer drove home 6.

Clarion posted a 16-4 record for the season and can proudly boast of a quality postseason run. The Bobcats entered PIAA play after finishing third in District 9. They then proceeded to down District 7 champion Bishop Canevin out of the WPIAL and avenged a loss earlier in the season by knocking off Northern Cambria 3-1.

Maplewood will play District 11 champion Marian Catholic for the Class A state championship on Saturday (11/18) in Johnstown. Marian Catholic advanced to finals with a 3-1 victory over Bishop Carroll.
