Spencer Miller And Coach Wiser Receive Top TCS/CE 2017 Awards / Number Of Other Cats Make All-Star Squad (12/27/17)

The Tri-County Sunday/ Courier Express newspapers, from DuBois, announced their 2017 Football All-Star Team in the Sunday, December 28th edition of the Tri-County Sunday, with Clarion Area’s Spencer Miller and Coach Larry Wiser being named Player of the Year and Coach of the Year respectively.

Miller was named for his all around play, offense, defense and special teams. He quarterbacked the District Nine Class AA Champion Bobcats, throwing for 1,030 yards and 9 touchdowns, while going 75-for 131. Miller also ran for 557 yards on 62 carries and scored10 touchdowns. He had 133 tackles, (102 solo), 5 interceptions and a sack. He also averaged 42.1 yards punting this season, with 10 punts landing inside the opponent’s 20 yard line.

Miller joins Kyle Cathcart who was named Player of the Year in 2001.

Coach Wiser guided the Bobcats to their fourth District Nine Title, their first in Class AA, with Class A titles in 1997, 2011 and 2013. The Cats went 12-1 and made it to the PIAA State Quarterfinals.

Coach Wiser also won Coach of the Year honors in 2012 and 2013.

A host of Bobcats join Miller and Coach Wiser on this year’s squad.

Those named to the First Team are:

Offense:

Colton Rapp, running back: Rapp ran for 1,002 yards on 133 carries, with 14 touchdowns and caught 6 passes for 84 yards and 3 touchdowns, despite fighting injuries.

Colt Stimmell, offensive lineman: Stimmell helped pave the way for the Bobcats to gain more than 4000 yards rushing and over 1000 yards passing.

Archer Mills, placekicker : Mills made 56 of 64 extra points and three field goals, with the longest at 37 yards.

Defense:

Zak Bauer, linebacker: Bauer had 133 tackles (82 solo) and 41 tackles for loss, including eight sacks. Bauer also had two interceptions, with one going for a touchdown, three fumbles caused and a fumble recovery.

Nick Porciello, defensive lineman: Porciello had 56 tackles and twelve sacks.

Those named to the Second Team are:

Offense:

Logan Minich, running back: Logan Minich ran for 908 yards on 126 carries, with 12 touchdowns, 9 receptions for 231 yards and a touchdown.

Defense:

Thomas Wurster, defensive line: Wurster had 43 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, including 5 sacks and two fumble recoveries.

Keeven Weaver, defensive back: Weaver had 47 tackles and three interceptions.

Honorable Mention:

Sam Minich: Sam Minich had 24 tackles, 4 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries, one fumble caused.
