Baseball Downed By Karns City (05/02/2018)

(By CSZ Sports Writer Kenn Staub)  The Clarion Bobcats’ two game win streak came to an end Monday, April 30 when they fell to the Karns City Gremlins 8-2 at County Park.

Karns City led 5-0 mid way through the third inning, having scored one run in the first and five more in the top of the third.

Spencer Miller slides into second. He had two singles and a double.

Clarion cut into the Karns City lead in the bottom of the third. Spencer Miller ripped a one out double to left, advancing to third as the result of a wild pitch during Cam Craig’s at bat. Craig would follow the wild pitch with a knock to center, scoring Miller to make the score 5-1.

After holding the Gremlins scoreless in the fourth, Clarion would add another tally in the bottom of the frame. Drew Whren led off by reaching on an error, advancing to second and third as the next two batters hit into fielder’s choices. Nate Datko would finally plate Whren with a single to left, drawing the Bobcats to within three, 5-2.

Unfortunately for Clarion, their run in the fourth would be the team’s last of the game. Karns City, on the other hand, would add two in the fifth and another in the seventh to set the final score at 8-2 in their favor.

Nate Datko had an RBI single in the fourth inning.

Miller led the Bobcats with three hits, two singles and a double. Craig, Datko, and Skylar Rhoades each singled. Craig and Datko were credited with an RBI apiece.

Craig got the start, striking out three in two and a third innings. He was relieved by Miller, who threw three and two-thirds innings. Conner pitch the last inning, fanning one.
