Boy’s Golf Team Competes At Bavarian Hills Tournament (08/21/2018)

(By CSZ Sports Writer Kenn Staub) Members of the Bobcat boy’s golf team opened the 2018 season at the Bavarian Hills Golf Tournament on Monday, August 20 in St. Marys.

Forty-seven players, representing 11 District 9 squads, competed on the 5,576 yard, par 71 Bavarian Hills Golf Course. Squads competed in teams of four, with the two best balls for each hole counting toward the total team score. In addition, golfers were individually divided into an A Flight and B Flight.

Clarion’s squad of Josh Craig, Jackson Fox, Mitch Geiger, and Lake Staub carded an 18 hole total of 168, ranking them ninth in the field. Bradford won the event with a 146, followed by Punxsutawney and Ridgway who tied for second with scores of 152. The Clarion-Limestone (C-L) foursome of Hayden Callen, Ian Callen, Kaden Park, and Hayden Siegel posted a 154, tying them for fourth with Elk County Catholic.

The Bobcat squad was led by Lake Staub who carded a 90. He was followed by Jackson Fox with a 91, Josh Craig with a 94, and Mitch Geiger with a 107. Login Dehner also competed for Clarion.

Craig tied for fourteenth in A Flight, while Geiger was listed as twenty-second. Zack Zameroski of Ridgway won A Flight with a 76. Staub tied for eighth in B Flight and Fox twelfth. Kaleb Hand of Dubois shot an 82 to capture B Flight.

Clarion’s four player team total of 382 strokes placed them in an overall tie for eighth with Dubois Central Catholic. Bradford’s 341 was first, with C-L and Punxsutawney tied for second with 346s.

Overall, Staub was tied for sixteenth, Fox tied for twenty-first, Craig tied for twenty-eighth, and Geiger tied for thirty-seventh. Ridgway’s Zameroski had the event’s low round (76). Spencer Cornelius of Bradford was second lowest with a 79 and C-L’s Siegel notched an 85 for the third lowest total.

The boy’s KSAC golf season gets underway with a megamatch at Foxburg Country Club on Wednesday, August 22. There is another megamatch the next day (August 23) at Clarion Oaks Golf Course.
