Boy’s Golf: Final Week Results & Season Recap (09/24/2018)

(By CSZ Sports Writer Kenn Staub)  The final week of the KSAC boy’s season saw a return to Foxburg Country Club (Tuesday, Sept. 18), site of the season opening event, and a trip to Lake Arthur Golf Club in Butler (Thursday, Sept. 20) to make up a match postponed two weeks prior. When all scores were tallied at the conclusion of the Lake Arthur event, the KSAC released its final 2018 team and individual standings.

Tuesday, Sept. 18: Foxburg Country Club

Clarion and Moniteau each posted five-person team totals of 241 to tie for second. The Bobcats’ were paced by Jackson Fox (43), who tied for fourth, and Lake Staub (46) in tenth.

Josh Craig (48), Mitch Geiger (51), and Cam Lapinto (53) posted rounds which counted toward the team score. Login Dehner competed but did not post a score.

Clarion-Limestone (C-L) claimed the team victory by 16 strokes. Lions’ golfer Ian Callen finished three over par on the 2,514 yard, par 34 course to take medalist honors, followed by teammates Kaden Park (39) in second and Hayden Siegel (40) in third.

Thursday, Sept. 20: Lake Arthur Golf Course

Clarion and Clarion-Limestone (C-L) split first place in the team competition with five-person totals of 246. This was Clarion’s first victory of the season.

Bobcat golfer Josh Craig (43) finished in second, a stroke behind medalist Hayden Siegel of C-L. Lake Staub (45) also finished in the top five for Clarion, putting up a 44 to tie for fourth.

Jackson Fox’s 51, Mitch Geirger’s 52, and Cam Lapinto’s 55 counted toward Clarion’s score.

Senior Login Dehner, playing in his last match for the Bobcats, carded a 62.

Season Recap

Clarion-Limestone earned first place in the KSAC with 72.5 team points. Clarion, second with 68.0 points, was runner-up in five of the first eight matches and third in two others before finally breaking through and sharing a first place finish with C-L at Lake Arthur. Moniteau concluded the season in third, a point behind the Bobcats.

Three Bobcat golfers, Josh Craig, Jackson Fox, and Lake Staub, finished 2018 in the KSAC top ten and will represent Clarion in the District 9 tournament.

Craig posted a 43.44 scoring average, good enough for third overall. He had seven top ten finishes, including a win at the season opening megamatch at Foxburg Country Club (August 22) and seconds at Cross Creek Resort (August 28), Wanango Country Club (Sept. 11), and Lake Arthur Golf Course (Sept. 20). Craig also had a third at the first Clarion Oaks Golf Club megamatch (August 23).

Fox’s 45.78 put him in eight. Fox was in the top ten seven times, claiming a tie for first at Clarion Oaks in August. He tied for third at Wanango and tied for fourth at both Hunters Station (August 30) and the second Foxburg event (Sept. 18).

Staub was right behind Fox with a 46.00. Like Fox, Staub also had seven top tens. He tied for fourth three times, including at both Clarion Oaks matches (August 23 and Sept. 4) and in the season ender at Lake Arthur. Staub also tied for fifth at Hi-Level (Sept. 13).

Mitch Geiger finished the season with a 51.22 average, earning him a spot in the KSAC top 25. He finished in the top 20 at five of nine matches. His best finish was a tie for 13th at Wanango.

Cam Lapinto had a 56.66 during his freshman season. His best finish was a tie for 21st at the first Clarion Oaks match.

Login Dehner, the lone Bobcat senior, finished his last season with a 56.75 average. His best finish was a tie for 14th at Hi-Level.
