Bobcats Fall To Rovers In District Nine League Large School Clash (10/20/18)

The Clarion Area Bobcats dropped a 41-19 decision to the visiting Brockway Rovers, in a District Nine League Large School contest at Memorial Stadium on Friday (October 19th).

The Cats got off to a good start. After receiving the opening kickoff, they drove down the field and scored when Archer Mills hit Cutter Boggess with a 37 yard scoring pass, on the right side of the endzone. Beau Verdill’s kick was good and Clarion led 7-0 with 6:23 left in the first.

Brockway answered at 10:10 in the second quarter, on a 1 yard scoring run by Jonathan Wood. Zane Puhala kicked the extra point knotting the score at 7-all. Wood scored again, two minutes later, this time from 4 yards out. And with Puhala’s successful kick, the Rovers led 14-7.

With 1:23 left in the half, Cal German, who shared time with Mills at quarterback, rolled to the right and hit Andrew Guth in the back right corner of the endzone, for a 16 yard touchdown. The extra point was no good and Brockway led by one, 14-13. The touchdown was set up by a 45 yard pass from German to Boggess, setting the Cats up at the sixteen.

Tyler Serafini ran in from 12 yards out, with thirty-five seconds left in the half and Puhala again added the extra point, moving the Rovers’ lead to 21-13.

Serafini scored on a 19 yard run with 4:54 left in the third and with the kick, Brockway’s lead moved to 28-13.

German hit Sam Minich in the back of the endzone, at 1:32 in  the quarter. The two-point try failed. The Cats now trailed by just 28-19.

But Brockway would score three times in the final stanza. At 11:47, quarterback Peter Downer hit Joshua Solnosky on an 28 yard scoring pass. The kick was unsuccessful. Then at 7:53, Downer threw to Conner Ford from 8 yards out. The final score came on a Garret McClintick interception return from 34 yards out. Puhala was successful on each of the last two extra point tries.

Key Bobcat Stats: Mills – 8 for 13 passing, 82 yards, 16 carries 27 yards, 7 receptions 40 yards, 9 tackles; German – 13 for 24 passing, 116 yards; Cutter Boggess – 4 receptions for 61 yards, 11 carries for 33 yards, 10 tackles; Sam Minich – 13 receptions for 54 yards, 21 tackles (18 solo).
