Clarion Volleyball Team Opens District 9 Playoffs With Quarterfinals Win (10/31/2018)

(By CSZ Sports Writer Kenn Staub)  The Bobcat volleyball team overcame a loss in the opening set to take the next three in downing Elk County Catholic (ECC)  3-1 in the quarterfinals of the District 9 Class A playoffs on Tuesday, Oct. 30. Coming in as the tournament’s seventh seed, the Crusaders took the first set 25-22 from the homestanding Bobccats before the orange-and-black reeled off wins of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-18 for the victory.

Junior KK Girvan led the Bobcats at the service line, collecting 13 points (four aces). Sophomore Brenna Campbell served for 12 (one ace) and freshman Jordan Best 10. Kaitlyn Constantino and Maddie Schill, both juniors, each chipped in six. Freshman Korrin Burns smashed 11 kills, with Schill adding nine. Campbell ran the Clarion offense, contributing 31 assists.

Girvan and Burns were both active on defense, coming up with 18 and 10 digs, respectively. Schill and Best scooped up seven apiece. Senior Hailey Sintobin had the Bobcats’ only block of the match.

Clarion, currently ranked second in the state by the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association, will host AC Valley in a semifinal match-up on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 6:30PM. AC Valley, the tournament’s third seed, earned its spot in the semifinals with a straight set victory over sixth seeded Coudersport. Clarion and AC Valley played Sept. 25, with the Bobcats taking the match in a sweep (27-25, 28-26, 25-17).
