Football: Cats Fall To Owls (10/14/18)

The Clarion Area Football Team fell to homestanding Bradford 34-14 last Friday night (October 12th).

The Owls jumped out to a 7-0 lead, at 8:23 of the first quarter, when Caleb Nuzzo hit Derek Sunafrank with a 10 yard touchdown pass, followed by Nuzzo’s successful kick.

Bradford would score twice in the second quarter to move their lead to 21-0. Donny Pattison ran the ball in from 40 yards out, with 6:20 on the clock and Nuzzo threw his second touchdown pass on the evening, a 19 yarder to Jaron Ambrose. Nuzzo was good on both point after attempts.

Pattison had another big touchdown run with 7:34 left in the third quarter, this time from 54 yards. With Nuzzo’s kick the Owls’ lead stretched to 28-0. Ambrose’ 4 yard touchdown run, with 7:59 left in the game moved Bradford’s advantage to 34-0.

The Bobcats had two late touchdowns, both through the air, with the subs getting some action. Cal German hit Ethan Burford for an 85 yard touchdown at 7:07, cutting the Owls’ lead to 34-6. The two-point conversion failed. German and Burford hooked up again, this time for a five yard touchdown, with 4:45 left. German hit Cutter Boggess for the two-pointer, setting the final at 34-14.

German finished 3-for-9 for 99 yards passing. Burford had 5 receptions for 99 yards. Starting quarterback Archer Mills was 8-for-14 for 56 yards, which put him over the thousand yard mark on the season, at 1014.

With the loss, the Cats fell out of the race for the District Nine League Large School title, which was clinched by Ridgway at 8-0.

The 6-2 Bobcats will host Brockway this Friday (October 19th), at Memorial Stadium.
