Varisty Volleyball Wins Two Of Three In Third Week (Sept. 17-21); JV Results Included (10/14/2018)

(By CSZ Sports Writer Kenn Staub)  The Clarion volleyball team had three matches during the third week of the season (Sept. 17-21), beginning with a trip to take on the top ranked Northern Cambria Colts before hosting Clarion-Limestone and Keystone.

 

Monday, Sept. 17: Northern Cambria 3 – Clarion 0

In a showdown of Class A powers, the third ranked Clarion Bobcats made the trip south for a date with the top rated team in the state, the Northern Cambria Colts. Unfortunately for fans of the black and orange, the Bobcats, despite hanging tough in each set, were swept by the Colts (25-20, 25-17, 25-17).

Freshman Korrin Burns paced the Bobcats at the service line with 10 points and smashed nine kills. Junior Kaitlyn Constantino served for five points and had eight kills. Maddie Schill, a sophomore, scored eight points via kills and senior Dorothy Kalinowski chipped in with five. Sophomore Brenna Campbell had 24 assists.

Campbell led the Bobcats with 13 digs, with junior KK Girvan receiving credit for 11. Burns had 9 and Constantino 8.

 

Tuesday, Sept. 18: Clarion 3 – Clarion-Limestone 0

Clarion responded to the previous evening’s setback by sweeping Clarion-Limestone (25-17, 25-17, 25-12).

KK Girvan served for 14 points (three aces) to lead the team. Kaitlyn Constantino had 11 from the back line (two aces) and freshman Jordan Best seven. Korrin Burns slammed 12 kills for the Bobcats, followed by Dorothy Kalinowski with six. Brenna Campbell recorded 28 assists over the course of the three sets.

Defensively, Girvan was credited with seven digs. Campbell and Burns came up with five apiece. Kalinowski and fellow senior Ali Troese each blocked a shot.

Junior Varsity: Prior to the varsity match the JV Bobcats bested their C-L counterparts 25-10 and 25-14. Bella Klein served for 11 points (four aces). Jordan Best (one ace) and Payton Simko (two aces) were good for six each. Best and Brennah Copenhaver both contributed five kills. Noel Anthony assisted on 15 points. On defense, Simko had four digs and Parker Boyden blocked a shot.

 

Thursday, Sept. 20: Clarion 3 – Keystone 0

Two nights after sweeping Clarion-Limestone, the Bobcats put down the Keystone Panthers in straight sets (25-10, 25-15, 25-21).

KK Girvan led the Bobcats in service points for the second consecutive match, scoring 12 (three aces) against the Panthers. She was followed by Kaitlyn Constantino, who recorded 11 from the line, receiving credit for two aces. Dorothy Kalinowski was a force at the net with 10 kills. Brenna Campbell had 21 assists.

Senior Lexi Lauer came up with nine digs, followed by Girvan with six and Campbell with five. Ali Troese had the Bobcat’s only block.

Junior Varsity: The JV Bobcats got the evening started with a two set sweep of the Panthers (25-13, 25-19). Ava Kiser served for eight points (three aces), Payton Simko seven, and Brennah Copenhaver (three aces) and Noel Anthony (four aces) six each. Jordan Best notched six kills and Simko four. Anthony led the way with 12 assists. Defensively, Kiser came up with five digs and Best four. Gabby Klein blocked a shot.
