Clarion Volleyball Advances To PIAA Class A Quarterfinals (11/07/2018)

(By CSZ Sports Writer Kenn Staub)  Clarion swept into the quarterfinals of the PIAA Class A volleyball tournament, downing first round opponent Cambridge Springs 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-17) on Tuesday evening (Nov. 6) in Dubois.

Junior Kaitlyn Constantino served for 13 points (one ace), accounted for another three tallies via kills, and came up with eleven digs on defense. Freshmen Jordan Best added eight from the service line and Korrin Burns seven (one ace). Burns also contributed ten kills.

Dorothy Kalinowki and Hailey Sintobin, senior classmates, continued to be a formidable duo in the front row. Kalinowski put down eight kills and three solo blocks. Sintobin recorded seven kills and a block.

Sophomore Brenna Campbell assisted on 30 points and scooped up 10 digs on defense. KK Girvan, a junior, accounted for 10 digs as well.

Clarion, ranked first in the state per the most recent Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association (PVCA) Class A poll, will take on the Northern Cambria Colts in a quarterfinal match-up. The quarterfinal game is scheduled for this Saturday (Nov. 10) at Punxsutawney High School with a start time of 5:00PM

Northern Cambria, ranked fifth by the PVCA, advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-1 win over Bishop Canevin. The Colts, out of District 6, played the Bobcats on Sept. 17, coming away with a straight set victory.
