Two local soccer players, brothers, Beau and Baylee Verdill competed at the Adidas National Soccer Showcase as part of the Tribe FC from Brookville. Beau and Baylee, the sons of Mike and Mindi Verdill, are students at Clarion Area.

Tribe FC Coach Dave Reitz shares this summary:

The showcase was held in Strongsville, Ohio on July 26th, 27th and 28th. There was also a Top Flight Freshman/Sophomore Combine and a Junior/Senior Spotlight Combine held on Thursday evening July 25th. Both Verdill’s entered and competed. The college representation/lead for the combine were: Rhys Cannella from Baldwin Wallace University, Dave West from Cleary University, Andy Hoggarth from Walsh University, Girish Thakar from Westminster College

We have attended for two years now. Though it wasn’t just boys from Brookville that comprised our roster, the roster was made of players from our Travel team “Tribe FC” which plays out of Brookville and is comprised of players from District 9 (minus our guest player from Slippery Rock).

We take our boys to the showcase so that they can get out and experience soccer in a much larger and much more diverse soccer sense. The boys really get to taste what tournament soccer is all about by staying away in a hotel for 3-4 days, being hours away from home, in a different state, playing teams, seeing flavor, and regional differences in the way the game is played. This also gives the boys the opportunity to be seen by college coaches, scouts, etc. The colleges registered number 70 but there were certainly reps from colleges that were not registered.

There are somewhere in the neighborhood of 140 teams involved from Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, and Michigan (I am probably missing a state or two).

We played 7 matches over the course of the 3-day weekend.

Goals were scored by Jace Miner, Garner McMaster, Koltin Kline, Hayden Kramer, Zakk Wolfe, Justin Vander Kellen, Beau Verdill, Baylee Verdill. And every midfielder or forward had assists.

There is an ANSS MVP for every match. The men who received the nod: Justin Vander Kellen, Hayden Kramer, Koltin Kline, Jace Miner, Beau Verdill, Garner McMaster, and Darius Sorbin.
