(By Coach Chris SchonbachlerThe Clarion Area Lady Cat soccer team kicked off their 2019 season, by hosting the reigning D9 single A champion Brockway Lady Rovers, on Tuesday, September 3rd. Clarion jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Evelyn Lerch notched her first goal of the season.

Brockway soon evened the score on a Chanel Britten goal.  The two teams traded scoring chances throughout the first half with Clarion’s Lerch completing a hat trick by half time.  As the teams started the second half tied at 3-apiece, Brockway soon found some gaps in the Lady Cat defense and extended their lead to 7-3.

On Wednesday, September 4th, the Lady Cats hosted the defending D9 double A champion Karns City Lady Gremlins.  Karns City got out to an early 1-0 lead on a McKenna Martin goal.

Soon after, Clarion evened the score at 1 when Evelyn Lerch headed a Lauren Troutmen free kick past the Lady Gremlin goalkeeper.

In a game that proved to be more physical than most, the Lady Gremlins added several more goals in the second half to secure a 5-1 victory.

To complete a week of scheduled games that can only be described as brutal, the Lady Cats traveled to St. Marys on Friday, September 5th, to face the Lady Dutch.  As was the case in the previous 2 games, Clarion matched goal tallies early but fell behind as the game progressed.

Evelyn Lerch took a throw in from Ruby Smith and scored her 5th goal in 3 games.  The Lady Dutch earned the victory with a final score of 7-1.

Clarion will look to rebound from a difficult first week with a pair of UAVSL South league games this week.  The girls will host Forest on Tuesday and will travel to Keystone on Wednesday.
