Basketball Roundup: Bobcat Boys Win Pair This Week, Lady Cats Drop Two (01/18/19)

The Clarion Area Boys and Girls Basketball Teams were both in action in two games this week. Both teams participated in a Boys-Girls double header at Union on Wednesday (January 15th), with the Bobcat Boys prevailing against the Golden Knights, 57-34 and the Lady Cats falling in a close 51-46 contest to the Damsels. The Boys downed the homestanding North Clarion Wolves 64-36 on Friday (January 17th), while the Lady Cats fell to the visiting She-Wolves 57-34.

Bobcat Boys

Clarion 57 – Union 34

The Bobcats had three players in double-figures, Cal German with 16, and Hunter Craddock and Nick Frederick with ten apiece. Skylar Rhoades had 8 points, Josh Craig had 5 points, while Beau Verdill and Christian Simko chipped in with four apiece.

The Cats led 20-8 after one and 38-20 at the half. Clarion outscored the Knights 19-14 in the second half, to secure the 57-34 win.

Truman Vereb led Union with thirteen points.

Clarion 64 – North Clarion 36

German again led the Bobcats, with twenty-one points. Rhoades also hit for double-figures, scoring thirteen. Craddock had 9 points, Frederick had 8, Verdill had 6, Simko had 4 and Craig had three.

The Cats led 18-7 after one. North Clarion had a 15-7 advantage in the second quarter, giving the Cats a three-point, 25-22 lead at the half. Clarion turned it up in the second half, outscoring the Wolves 15-4 in the third and 24-10 in the fourth.

Drew Gatesman led North Clarion with twelve.

The Cats will host the A-C Valley Falcons on Wednesday (January 22nd).

Lady Cats

Union 51 – Clarion 46

Jordan Best and KK Girvan each scored in double-figures for the Lady Cats, with Best hitting for 13 and Girvan scoring ten. Kait Constantino had 9, Payton Simko scored 8 points. Rebekah Ketner, Ava Cherico and Eva Lerch had two points apiece.

Cats led by one, 11-10 after one. But the Damsels held a 13-9 advantage in the second, to take a 23-20 lead into halftime. With a 12-8 edge in the third, Clarion led by one, 32-31 heading to the final stanza. The Damsels outscored the Cats 20-14 in the fourth to set the final.

Keira Croyle led Union with thirteen points.

North Clarion 57 -Clarion 34

North Clarion led 11-5 after one, 25-13 at the half and 40-21 after three.

Constantino led Clarion with twenty-two points. Simko, Best and Girvan had four points apiece.

Mackenzie Bauer and Abby Gatesman led the She-Wolves with 13 and 12 respectively.

The Lady Cats will travel to A-C Valley on Tuesday (January 21st).
