Bobcats And Lady Cats Advance To District Nine Class AA Basketball Semis, Boys Down Gremlins, Girls Defeat Lady Gators (02/22/20)

Both Clarion Area Basketball Teams opened the District Nine Class-A playoffs in fine fashion, with the Bobcats Boys downing Karns City, 54-48 at Keystone High School on Thursday (February 20th) and the Lady Cats downing Port Allegany, 56-50 at St. Marys High School on Friday (February 21st).

With the wins both teams will advance to the semifinals. The Bobcat Boys will face Keystone on Tuesday (February 25th), with the Lady Cats squaring off against Redbank Valley on Wednesday (February 26th).

Boys Game: Clarion 54 – Karns City 48

The Bobcats had three player reach double-figures. Cal German had a game-high 23 points, while Hunter Craddock and Skylar Rhoades followed with 11 and 10 points respectively.

Nick Frederick just missed double-figures with nine points. Josh Craig had one point.

The score was tied 16-all after one. A 12-5 Bobcat edge in the second had Clarion up 28-21 at the half. The Cats led 34-32 after a third period, that saw the Gremlins hold an 11-6 advantage. A 20-16 Bobcat edge in the fourth set the final.

Chase Beighley led Karns City with 21 points, while Nathan Waltman followed with ten.

Girls Game: Clarion 56 – Port Allegany 50

Kait Constantino and K.K. Girvan had big games for the Cats with Constantino scoring a game-high 26 points and Girvan following with eighteen. Jordan Best had 8 points, with Payton Simko and Noel Anthony each scoring two points.

The Lady Cats were down 14-8 after one, but outscored the Lady Gators 18-14 in the second, to trail by only two at the half, 28-26. A 16-13 edge for Port Allegany in the third, had the Gators up 44-39 after three.

Cailey Barnett had 20 points to lead the Gators.

But Clarion Came back big time in the fourth, with the Cats outscoring the Gators 17-6, to win going away.
