Bobcats Finish Eighth In District Nine AA Wrestling Tournament, Zack Keihl, Cutter Boggess and Donavan Edmonds Qualify For Regionals (02/23/20)

The Clarion Area Wrestling Team finished eighth, out of sixteen teams in the District Nine Class-AA Wrestling Tournament, held this past Friday and Saturday, February 21st and 22nd.

The Bobcats had three wrestlers qualify for the PIAA Northwest Regional Class-AA Tournament, which will be held on Friday and Saturday, March 5th and 6th. Zack Keihl at 120, Cutter Boggess at 160 and Donavan Edmonds (170) each qualified with fourth place finishes.

Zack lost to Scott Fuller 4-0 to Scott Fuller of Port Allegany in the preliminary round. He won by fall over Nash Delp of Coudersport at 3:20 in the second consolation round. Zack pinned Alex Carlson of Redbank Valley at 2:08 in the consolation quarterfinals, before falling 1-0 to Kane’s Dillon Illerbrun in the consolation finals.

Cutter pinned Cameron County’s Wendell O’Brian at 0:41 in their quarterfinal bout. He lost by fall in the semis to Noah Bash of Brockway at 5:25. Cutter came back in the consolation semifinals, with a 7-0 decision over Kane’s Nate Asp, before losing by fall to Brockway’s Wyatt Griffin at 3:50 in the consolation finals.

Donavan won a 15-0 technical fall at 2:35 over Cameron County’s Dein Snyder, in the preliminary round. He pinned Isaac Zimmerman from Johnsonburg at 5:02 in the quarterfinals. Donavan fell to Curwensville’s Jake McCracken by fall, at 3:40 in the semifinals. He won an 8-1 decision over Isaak Baumgarner of Port Allegany in the consolation semifinals, before falling 8-2 in a rematch to Zimmerman in the consolation finals.

Other Clarion wrestlers, in the tournament were Jacob Means who had one win at 152, and Caleb Edmonds at 145 and Logan Edmonds at 182.
