Lady Cats Have Big Game Against Karns City (02/08/20)

The Clarion Area Lady Cats had a great game against the visiting Karns City Lady Gremlins, on Saturday (February 8th), coming away with a 63-28 win. The Cats used a solid ball hawking defense, that came away with a number of turnovers, and strong inside play, both offensively and defensively, whether it was driving to the hoop, closing lanes or battling for rebounds.

Clarion, which never trailed in the game, opened with a 13-0 run. And after a pair of free throws by Karns City, the Cats closed the first with seven more points, to lead 21-2 at the quarter’s end.

Kait Constantino scored 14 of her game high 30 points in the quarter. She finished the game with 11 free throws and a pair of three-point shots. KK Girvan had 3 points, and Jordan Best and Payton Simko contributed two points each in the frame.

The Gremlins opened the second on a 9-2 run, to close the Clarion lead to 23-11, the closest they would get for the rest of the game. The Cats went on a 14-2 run, the rest of the quarter, to hold a 37-13 halftime edge. Constantino had 7 points, Simko had 5, and Best and Eva Lerch had two apiece in the period.

The third quarter opened with a 7-0 Lady Cat run as Girvan stole the ball and scored on a layup, Best who was fouled as she was scoring, also sunk the free throw and Rebekah Ketner made a basket.

After Karns City hit on a free throw and a three point play, the Bobcats closed the quarter on a bucket by Best, and a pair of free throws and another basket by Constantino, putting Clarion up 50-17 headed to the final stanza.

The teams pretty much traded score-for-score in the fourth, with Clarion finishing with a 13-11 edge, to set the final. Constantino scored 5 points in the frame, with Girvan and Best scoring four points each.

Best finished with 13 points, Girvan had 9 and Simko scored seven. Ketner and Lerch finished with two points apiece.

The Lady Cats will travel to Brockway on Tuesday (February 11th).
