On February 23rd, the Clarion Area Boys Basketball Team held their annual banquet at Trinity Point Church of God.

The event was started at 4:00PM, with Clarion Boys Basketball Booster President Brian Burford giving an overview of the season.   Highlights for the season included new uniforms, Cal German hitting the 1,000 point milestone in his junior year and raising over $4,200 for the Clarion Cancer Center, through a cooperative effort with Keystone Panthers, at the annual Hoops for Hope event.

The success of a program involves the hands of many and Burford thanked all that supported the program this year and were involved with the many fundraisers.   Additionally, the program had another successful 6th grade basketball tournament, where our local 6th grade team, Clarion Comets, participated and placed in the event.

Coach Tom Lewis, the Junior Varsity Coach, was colorful in his words of wisdom and encouragement for the JV members of the team.   Coach Scott Fox, the first year Varsity Coach, recited some statistics for the team for the year and talked about the upcoming summer programs.

The Bobcats started off 0-4 and really turned the season around and made the District 9 Championship game for the first time since 2003, eventually coming up short against Ridgway.

The evening wrapped up at 6:00PM, with all who participated enjoying a fun evening of fellowship.

Both coaches were given new coaching pullovers by the senior players and they even honored Coach Lewis with an Elvis bobble-head while Coach Fox was gifted a megaphone, to help his quiet voice.   Thanks to all players and coaches for a great season and best of luck in the PIAA tournament which starts this Saturday, with the Bobcats taking on Winston Thurston at 2:00PM at Keystone.

(Thanks to Clarion Area Boys Basketball for this article and photos. Congratulations on your fine season!!!!)
