Kait Constantino, Austin Newcomb Named To Innaugural TCW/CE Fantastic 14 (06/20/20)

The Tri-County Weekend and Courier Express newspapers from DuBois unveiled their inaugural Fantastic 14, in the Saturday, June 20th edition of the Tri-County Weekend.

The TCW mentioned that new All-Star Team came about, “as a way to honor senior athletes in the Class of 2020 who missed out on a a “lot of their ‘lasts’ in sports and in high school in general,” due to COVID 19 restrictions.

In selecting the senior athletes, their total accomplishments in all sports that they participated in, during their entire varsity careers were considered.

The TCW/C-E sportswriters selected seven male athletes and seven female athletes for the team. The Fantastic 14, which will be a yearly All-Star Team, is the first All-Star Team under the new TCW/C-E umbrella as the Tri-County Weekend is a new entity, replacing the former Tri-County Sunday. There is an Outstanding Senior Girl and Outstanding Senior Boy also named.

Clarion Area’s Kaitlyn Constantino was selected to the Senior Girls Honor Roll and Clarion Area’s and Clarion-Limestone’s Austin Newcomb was name to the Senior Boys Honor Roll.

The TCW article mentioned that Kaitlyn Constantino “also was in the mix for Outstanding Senior honor, (which was won by Elk County Catholic’s Taylor Newton) as she too was a standout three-sport athlete who played volleyball, basketball and softball for the Lady Cats.”

Kaitlyn was an outside hitter in volleyball, as a member of three teams that made the PIAA Playoffs (each being knocked out by the eventual state champion) and won District Nine Class A championships during her junior and senior season. Kate was named to the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association All-State Team as a senior.

In basketball, Kaitlyn helped the Lady Cats to the PIAA State playoffs in both her junior and senior season. She finished her career with 1,314 points (third all-time for Clarion Area). During her senior year she scored 520 points.

Kaityn did not get to compete in softball as a senior, but was named to the Pennsylvania High School Softball Association’s All-State Team as a sophomore and junior. She was named to the Third Team at Third Base in 2018 and to the First Team as a Pitcher in 2019. She was joined on the 2018 squad by her sister Alexis, then a senior, who was named First Team at Shortstop.

In her last season of competition for the Lady Cats, Kaitlyn went 17-6 in the circle, throwing 245 strikeouts, while issuing just 39 walks and had a 1.60 ERA. She batted .500 going 41-for-82. Kaitlyn delivered on seven doubles and four triples, while scoring 29 runs and driving in nine.

Kaitlyn is headed to Grove City College where she will compete on the softball team.

Austin competed on the Clarion-Limestone football team as a sophomore and junior, and the Clarion Area football team as a senior. He also competed in track and field.

As a sophomore, Austin had 327 rushing yards and 357 receiving yards.

He ran for a District Nine record 2,627 yards as a junior, carrying the ball 253 times for a 10.4 yards per carry average, with thirty-five rushing touchdowns. He had 572 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

As a senior member of the Clarion Area squad (as Clarion-Limestone joined in the co-op with Clarion and North Clarion) in 2019, Austin led the TCS (TCW)/C-E coverage area in rushing with 1,276 yards (10.7 yards per carry), with twenty-one rushing touchdowns. He also had twelve catches for 331 yards and five touchdowns.

Austin finished his varsity football career with 4,230 rushing yards on 421 carries and 67touchdowns. He added 55 catches for 1,260 yards and seventeen scores.

Austin was named the TCS/C-E Player of the Year as a junior. He was named First Team Pennsylvania Football Writers Class-A All-State as a running back and First Team Pennsylvania Football News Coaches Select Class-A All-State as a junior and First Team Pennsylvania Football News Coaches Select Class-AA at Slot/H-Back as a senior.
