Smail Brothers Members Of Team Pennsylvania In Prestigious 2020 Prep Baseball Report Junior Futures Games (07/31/20)

Local Baseball players, brothers Dawson and Derek Smail, sons of Dave and Jami Smail, have been selected to play for Team Pennsylvania in the prestigious Prep Baseball Report (PBR) Junior Futures Game. This year, due to CoVid-19 and recommended travel restrictions, PA PBR arranged for the teams from the Northeastern States to compete in DuBois, instead of traveling to Lakepoint (Cartersville), Georgia.

Showers Field and Stern Field (DuBois) is hosting teams from New England, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, running from July 30th through August 1st.

The PBR Junior Futures teams were selected by PBR officials, based on the results of the Pennsylvania States Games/Showcase that was held on June 29th at DuBois. Just like the PBR Futures Games, the Junior Futures are an invite-only event.

This is Derek’s first year participating in the PBR Future Games.

Derek Smail has been selected to play for the 2025 (13U) Team PA. This is his first year’s competing in the PBR Junior Futures Games. Defensively, he will be playing both outfield and infield positions. Unlike the 2024 graduate teams, the 2025 team has just one roster, and they will play in a tournament-style event against Team New England, Team New Jersey, and Team New York.

He is a member of the 2020 Beaver Valley 13U Red (PGH) team and Tri-State Arsenal 2025 Scout Team (New Jersey).

Dawson (Tri-State Arsenal 2024 Scout Team) at the Perfect Game 14U World Series, in Sanford, Florida

This is Dawson’s second year competing in this type of national event, having competed in the 2019 Junior Futures Games in Lakepoint, Georgia. Unique to this year, PA PBR has decided to field two rosters for the 2024 (14U) game. Dawson was placed on Team PA Roster 1, where he will be playing the outfield and infield defensive positions.

He is a member of the 2020 Beaver Valley 14U Red (PGH) team and Tri-State Arsenal 2024 Scout Team (New Jersey).
