Lady Cats Volleyball Team Downs Maplewood And Tyrone (Posted 09/28/20)

The Clarion Area Lady Cats Volleyball Team visited Maplewood on Wednesday (September 23rd) and Tyrone on Saturday (September 26th), coming away with wins in both matches.

Maplewood Match

The Lady Cats downed the Lady Tigers 3-1 (24-26, 25-18, 25-15, 25-22).

Brenna Campbell had a huge all-around match with 10 points (1 ace), 54 assists, 14 digs and two kills. Erica Selfridge came away with 9 points (1 ace), 19 kills and nineteen digs. Korrin Burns registered 9 points (2 aces), 30 kills and fourteen digs. Payton Simko had 14 points (1 ace), 3 digs and an assist.

Jordan Best recorded 5 points, 14 digs and a pair of assists. Aryana Girvan had 1 point (1 ace) 7 kills and five digs. Grace Ochs had an ace and Adia Needham had three kills.

The Junior Varsity lost their match.

Grace Ochs had 6 points and a kill. Brianna Pierce had six points. Gia Babington registered 5 points and five kills. Taylor Alston had 5 points and four kills.

Paola Lopez recorded 4 points and three kills. Bailey Rupert scored a point and had five kills, while Jordan Smith had a kill.

Tyrone Match

Clarion defeated the Lady Eagles 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-16).

Aryana Girvan had a fine match, coming away with 9 points (2 aces) and six kills. Erica Selfridge also shined, with 7 points (1 ace) and ten kills. Brenna Campbell scored 7 points and dished out twenty-seven assists.

Korrin Burns had 6 points  (1 ace), while registering thirteen kills. Payton Simko recorded 6 points (2 aces) and a pair of kills.

Jordan Best had 3 points (2 aces) and five assists, while Grace Ochs scored a point.

(Tyrone match stats may be a bit off, with usual statistician not in attendance.)

Coach Campbell had this to say after the Tyrone match, “Brenna’s serving set the tone for the match. Both (Erica) Selfridge and (Aryana) Girvan hit with so few errors that their offensive contributions were extremely impactful. Burns and Selfridge passed well to allow Campbell to lead the offense.”

The Lady Cats will visit Cranberry today (Monday, September 28th) and Clarion-Limestone tomorrow (Tuesday, September 29th).
